Chamen Village Project, Chamen/Gambia

Commercial agriculture in a Gambian village

Stiftung Sabab Lou supports the development of agricultural production in the village of Chamen in the Gambia. The project consists of 3 modules, the cultivation and sale of vegetables and fruits, sheep fattening and beekeeping. Growing and selling of vegetables and fruits is the core-part of the project, because all families participate in the garden, and because a pumping- and irrigation-system supplying water to all households is part of it. The project is intended to create jobs, give people a more regular income, reduce impoverishment, and halt the migration of young people to the large cities and overseas to the rich countries.
